ATMOSPHERE
What is the Izzy's style?
In this period of cookie-cutter chain restaurants, Izzy's is a welcome breath of fresh air. Each of the three locations of Izzy's Steaks and Chops are slightly different and feature their own style.
If you want to know why San Francisco is such a spawning ground for creativity, birthing such movements as the Beatniks and Hippies, you only have to pay a visit to one of its first genuine Bohemian grottos.
Izzy really knew how to throw a party, especially during the Prohibition era where he pushed the envelope operating the restaurant as an underground speakeasy. A loudly talked about secret. Everyone that was an anyone came. Jazz pounded out of the smoky hall. Drinks were pounded back. The cops, usually, were pounding on the door.
Making a buck at the end of the day wasn’t always Izzy’s goal. Friends to all, including a cast of down and out eccentric artists and musicians, Izzy commonly accepted works of art as payment which he would lovingly hang on the walls. Considering the eyebrow raising amount of mish mashed paintings up and down our walls, you have to wonder how he managed to pay rent.
When you come in, poke about and take an eclectic stroll through San Francisco’s heyday. Glamorous black and white photos of yesteryear, news clippings gossiping about the latest Izzy’s party gone out of control, and way too many paintings add delightful and historical taste to the rich woods and brick walls that make our restaurant so homey.

The newest Izzy's, which opened April 2007, is also the largest one. It has five distinct seating areas: The bar provides about 100 seats featuring top quality piano music every evening from 6:30 until 10:00. Patrons may also enjoy our Bar Menu or order from our full Dinner Menu in the relaxed atmosphere of this area. We call it "Izzy's Trophy Bar" and has on display over 200 antique trophies, some dating back to the 1800s. It is quite stunning and features a custom bar with a rare Bobinga wood bar top.
Izzy's in San Ramon features a semi-private room called "The French Room" decorated with a collection of antique French Lady Lamps and wall to wall mirrors. This room seats about 20 people. Our private room is called "the Napoleon Room" and features many items memorializing the famed leader of France in the early 1800s. It can seat about 35-40 guests. When the good weather calls, we open our covered patio area which seats approximately 25 fans of alfresco dining. Our main dining room in San Ramon can seat about 150 in three different areas.
